The Genesis Project offers unique and fulfilling opportunites for you to work with our staff, and in many cases, working directly with our clients. Click each of the positions below for details and requirements for each.

DAY SHIFT

The Genesis Project is excited to add volunteers who can give their time during our hours of operation. As a volunteer who has also gone through Center Operations training, you will be working directly with the clients at the center. This might include being a listener, overseeing cooking, helping research for jobs for the clients, or other activities with the women. Additional duties include cleaning, admin, laundry, or other needs that fit your skill set. All of these services help keep our program running in addition to providing a safe and healing environment for the clients.

Days of Operation:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10am – 4pm
Monday, Friday: 11am – 4pm
Saturday, Sunday: On-call

Requirements:
Completion of Volunteer and Awareness Training
Completion of Center Operations Training
Pass a background check

EVENING SHIFT

This shift consists of being on-call from 5pm-9pm. This volunteering slot is in place for if a client is going to come to the center for the night and we need people at the center to fill the gap between daytime volunteers leaving and the overnight volunteers coming in. As with the night shift, you do not need to come in unless you are called. If you are called in, you will just be spending time with the client, making her feel comfortable, and helping her settle in for the night.

Requirements:
Completion of Volunteer and Awareness Training
Completion of Center Operations Training
Pass a background check

NIGHT SHIFT

Overnight shifts require volunteers to be on-call starting at 8pm until midnight. If you receive a phone call during these hours, you will need to stay and sleep at our center until the following morning. However, if you do not receive any calls, you do not need to come into the center at all. If you are called into the center, you will be hanging out with the clients, talking, laughing, watching movies, and essentially having a sleepover!

There will always be a staff member as well as a volunteer.

Requirements:
Completion of Volunteer and Awareness Training
Completion of Center Operations Training
Pass a background check

WRITING LETTERS

The Genesis Project is becoming more involved in the jail system to reach out to women in “the life” who are incarcerated. We inform these women about the resources that are available to them, but a majority of our ministry with them is simply encouraging them and speaking love and truth into their lives so that when they are released, they can have more confidence than before in their inherent worth and in the potential for their future.

We also sometimes have clients who get into residential programs and love it when we send letters encouraging them

If you have a special skill or passion you would like to share, you can volunteer as a teacher or teaching assistant to cater to the clients individually. ASSISTING CLIENT INTERN

Working directly with the client interns is a great way to make a huge impact on a client’s life. Client interns come into the center 2-3 weekdays from 10am-4pm. The day of the week that is available depends on the current client intern’s schedule. During this time, volunteers will help the client run the boutique and perform various tasks around the center. Volunteers are encouraged to help the client learn jobs skills and new tasks. You are also welcome to sit in on and help the staff with the class at the end of the day. In the class they learn about how to respond responsibly in a job environment.
